I just brushed it off, thinking there was corn stuck in her teeth or something. When she was still complaining the next day, I decided to check it out. I looked in her mouth, and saw that she had her very first loose tooth. She was SO SO SO excited because one of her good friends had lost a tooth a few months earlier. I, on the other hand, was not excited at all. I gave her strict instructions not to wiggle that tooth at all. I then went in my room and cried. I was not ready for missing teeth! I’m not ready for the awkward smiles, braces, big girl look that permanent teeth bring. Not ready, not ready, not ready! I loved her little girl smile so much and I was hoping to keep that tooth in for as long as possible. Since she is such a little rule follower, I’m convinced that tooth stayed in two weeks longer than it would have if it belonged to any other child. Everyone she saw she told, “I have a loose tooth, but my mom says I can’t wiggle it!” One day in early June she spent the day with a friend and came home with a very, very loose tooth. I told her to stay right there, I wanted one last picture of her with all her baby teeth. When I came back outside, this is what I saw.

Tooth in hand!

She was so excited! I know, I know, this happened in May- but at least I’m writing about it! Since Hannah’s birthday in March, Sadie had been talking non stop about her birthday and birthday party. She was SO excited to get presents! Since her birthday is always around Memorial Day, it is a great excuse to have a BBQ and hang out with friends. Most of her birthday guests were our adult friends, but Sadie still had a great time. The day before her actual birthday we had a small little party at the park with some of Hannah’s preschool friends and their younger siblings. Sadie thinks that the preschool friends are her best friends, so she was in heaven! On her actual birthday we had to take a trip to the pediatrician where she was diagnosed with a double ear infection. Poor thing didn’t feel well at all! She made the best of it though and ended up having a good day.
<div id="scid:66721397-FF69-4ca6-AEC4-17E6B3208830:09016dd6-c8d1-4836-b54f-008c15bfcd2c" class="wlWriterEditableSmartContent" Camp
I am SO proud of my Sadie girl! This past week she went to dance camp with Hannah. This is the first time she’s ever done anything “drop off” style. The first day I was a nervous wreck that she wouldn’t do well. Her teacher said she did great and she had so much fun! She wasn’t in Hannah’s group, so even though they were there together, they didn’t see each other most of the morning. Here is a video of her performance on the last day. She did such a great job! You can see the look on her face towards the end as they danced closer to me. She was so worried that she left her “pack pack” in the other room.

Alexishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02843400486715542993noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3536580557346057391.post-78641322420482901792013-06-26T04:10:00.001-07:002013-06-26T04:10:22.486-07:00Swimmer

Alexishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02843400486715542993noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3536580557346057391.post-66027756334713662362013-06-14T20:41:00.001-07:002013-06-14T20:41:46.156-07:002 Months
Before Claire turns 3 months old in a few days, I need to post her 2 month pictures! She is such an incredibly happy baby. Seriously, she makes this newborn stage so easy. She goes with the flow as I drag her around to all of her sisters’ activities. She loves the Ergo carrier and falls asleep every time I put her in there. She sleeps through the night!! She is a dream baby! She loves to smile and is just starting to giggle a little bit. Every time you go to put her paci in her mouth you can’t, because she smiles so big that it won’t stay in her mouth! Her 2 months stats are a little skewed because she went to her two month appointment two weeks late. They grow so fast at this age and I know she grew a lot in those 2 weeks.

2 month stats:

10 lbs 11 oz

23 inches

She is very loved and her sisters can’t get enough of her!

PS- Poor Bear pictures were also taken 2+ weeks late. What can I say…She’s the third child!
Alexishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02843400486715542993noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3536580557346057391.post-72093234727727018222013-06-08T19:17:00.000-07:002013-06-08T19:17:00.524-07:00Silly Sadie

I found Sadie flipping through her Bible and saying, “NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!” When I asked her what she was saying NO about, she said, “Well, I’m trying to found Jesus!” When she finally found him, she said, “YES!”
Alexishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02843400486715542993noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3536580557346057391.post-34634029717972365932013-06-07T19:08:00.001-07:002013-06-07T19:08:56.302-07:00Soccer Star
Hannah has never had any interest in trying any sport. She loves ballet and it is definitely her thing! However, Kyle and I both wanted her to at least try a team sport. In the past we’ve talked up t-ball and soccer and she’s always said she wasn’t interested. I even asked her last spring if she wanted to play soccer with her good friend from school and she said, “No, I think I’ll just go cheer for her.” This spring I was determined to get her to try soccer. One of her preschool friends was going to do it, so that convinced her! This friend ended up not doing soccer because she was too busy but we later found out that Hannah’s BFF was also going to play! Hannah has really great fine motor skills, but her gross motor skills have never been as good. She’s always had a hard time kicking a ball, swinging a bat, or balancing on her bike. I wasn’t expecting too much on the soccer field, but I wanted her to at least try it. In her first game, she scored a goal! That really boosted her confidence and she ended up loving soccer. She was actually really, really good (and looked SO cute in her uniform!). She hustled, went after the ball, got back on defense, and scored many goals. I am so proud of her for trying and giving it her best. One of the things I love about Hannah is that she is a go getter! She is not shy in new situations, doesn’t cling to me or cry, makes new friends easily, and tries her hardest. I think she liked it so much that she is going to play again in the fall!

This little boy was also really good. Many weeks it was them…Against all of these! She had decided she wanted either a bowling party or an art party. She eventually chose an art party and thankfully, there is a children’s art center just up the road from our house. She wanted a rainbow theme, which was super easy! I made her a rainbow dress and she loved it! Not too long after I made Hannah’s dress, I had the fabric out to make something else and Sadie came to me and said, “You are making me a beautiful rainbow dress too?” How can you say no to that?

We set off for Hannah’s party, dressed in every color of the rainbow. Her friends had so much fun painting, stamping, and playing rainbow games!

They were making paintings inspired by the artist Kandinsky. Water color backgrounds with black bold stamping over the water colored picture. My little OCD Hannah didn’t want to ruin her watercolor so she got a separate paper for stamping.

Friends!

Everyone loved having Claire at the party! Sadie playing “Throw the rainbow beanbags into the cloud buckets.” All the kids sat and listened so quietly. She is such a happy baby. She rarely cries and it is often because she is hungry or has lost her pacifier. She is spending more and more time awake. She is very loved by her sisters. First thing in the morning they run into our room asking to see baby Claire. They love to talk, sing, and read to her. She has found her special place in our family very quickly.

At one month, Claire is sleeping 4-6 hour stretches at night. She loves being in the Ergo carrier and pretty much spends her days sleeping or cuddling with Mommy. She is growing like crazy!

1 Month Stats:

9 Pounds 6 Ounces

22.5 inches

Alexishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02843400486715542993noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3536580557346057391.post-78719867991494456012013-04-19T18:18:00.001-07:002013-04-19T18:18:23.490-07:00Big Sisters, Little Sister
Hannah and Sadie got to meet their little sister the day she was born. Kyle took them out to dinner and then brought them to see Claire. Hannah was so in love! Sadie was a little unsure of what was going on. The poor thing was having a hard time with mommy being gone. What a wonderful day to be born! This is the story of her birth.

For the last 8 weeks of my pregnancy I was told that I would be induced at 39 weeks if the baby had not come by then. I really didn’t want an induction, because I have fast labors and I didn’t want to be tied to the hospital bed. I wanted to be able to walk around and labor at home some. However, I was ready for the baby to come and since I was considered “high risk,” an induction was most likely going to happen. At my 38 week appointment, the induction wasn’t scheduled and the doctor mentioned that they may let me go closer to 40 weeks. I was frustrated because I was told for months that I would be induced and my mom was in town and really wanted to see her new granddaughter before she went back to Colorado. Talk about pressure! I had another appointment one day before I was 39 weeks and I met with the head doctor of the practice. She said she would get me on the induction calendar and would call me later that day to let me know when. She called me an hour later and said, “See you at the hospital at 7:00 tomorrow morning.” What? I would really be having a baby in less than 24 hours? That afternoon and evening I worked and got everything organized at home because we were having a baby the next day!!

The next morning we woke up early and headed to the hospital. It was a very strange feeling just walking in with nothing happening, knowing that I would have a baby at the end of the day. We got in, got settled, answered a million questions, and watched some HGTV. Around 9:30 my doctor came in and it was time to get the show on the road. She broke my water and started the pitocin. I was already 3 cm dilated and as she left she said she was expecting a pretty quick labor, based on my past experience. We continued to watch HGTV, Kyle did some work, things were calm and controlled. Over time, the contractions got stronger and stronger but nothing that I couldn’t breathe through. Around 12:00 the contractions were pretty intense and at 12:50 I asked to be checked to see if any progress had been made. I was 4 cm. Are you kidding me?? I have fast labors and it had been over 3 hours and I had progressed only 1 cm? I was discouraged and I asked for the epidural. Kyle asked me if I was sure I wanted it and I said that if I had only progressed one cm in 3 hours, I needed that epidural! I asked for it and the nurses got the IV fluids going that I needed before I was allowed to have the epidural. At 1:20 my doctor came in and decided to check me. She quickly said, “When was the last time you were checked?” I told her, “12:50.” She said, “12:15 or 12:50.” I said, “12:50. Like 5-0.” She said, “Oh, wow! You are already 7 cm.” She quickly called the office and told them that she wouldn’t be coming back for her appointments after lunch since I was progressing so quickly. I got the epidural in and as soon as he was done I told the nurse that I was feeling a LOT of pressure. I knew she was coming soon! I asked to be checked again because I was feeling the need to push. My doctor checked me and I was still at 7 cm so she told me she was going to run over to the office (next door) and she would see me soon. About 5 minutes later I REALLY felt the need to push and the nurse decided to check me. I was 10 cm! I went from 4 cm to 10 cm in less than an hour! My doctor came running in the room saying, “Oh my goodness, I didn’t even have time to turn on my computer!” I had the epidural in for less than 10 minutes so I was feeling everything! They started running around the room getting the bed ready. In less than 2 minutes everything was ready and it was time to push. Kyle needed to go to the restroom so he ran over there really quickly (in our room). As he left the bathroom, Dr. S said, “Hurry over dad, she’s coming!” She told me to let her know when I had my next contraction and to push (which was strange because in the past I’ve never been able to feel those contractions because I’ve always had epidurals that worked. I pushed once and said, “That hurt like hell!” Kyle looked at me and said, “Well, she’s out!” Really? That was fast!

Claire Marie

3/20/2013 at 2:03 PM

6 pounds 13 ounces

18 inches long

Claire impressed all the nurses because her Apgar scores were 9 and 10. They told me that they only give a 10 about once every 6 months. Everyone who came into the room said, “I heard she’s a 10!” and they were all very excited. Evidently, it was a pretty big deal. Who knew? I joked with the nurse that Claire was already an overachiever.

Welcome to our family, Claire. However, it was magically recovered today. I’m going to try to get this blog caught up before our next huge event coming up!

I absolutely love when we spend Christmas at home. Not that I don’t love when we are in Colorado with our family, I do love that too. I love getting all the cousins together to play, having big meals with the family, and the fact that sometimes there is snow on the ground. What I don’t love is being there for seven days, running between two houses all week, trying to make sure we spend equal amounts of time with each family, keeping the girls happy, etc. I feel like that every minute we are there is scheduled with some function and we are always spread so thin. I’m not complaining about it, it is just the facts. We do these things, even though they aren’t the easiest or the most convenient, because we love our families and value the time we spend with them- but let me just get something out there. It is in no way a vacation nor relaxing! I still remember the first Christmas that my family didn’t travel to Texas. I was 20 years old and it was one of the most relaxing Christmases I’ve ever had. No hustle and bustle, no packing into the car and driving for 15 hours, no getting up in the wee hours of the morning to drive back home. Were there down sides? Yes! I missed seeing my grandparents and cousins that year, and every year since, but is was great in its own way. It was simple, relaxing, and I loved it!

This year was the third time we’ve spent Christmas at our own home. The first year it was just the two of us and Hannah. Kyle had to work on Christmas day so nothing was “normal” about it. We made it work with what we had going on. Hannah opened presents over a series of days instead of all at once. It was different in the way we celebrated that year, but was Christmas really different? Christmas is celebrating the birth of Christ, and that never is different. So, while the way we celebrated was different, what we celebrate will forever be the same. As we get older, have our own families, and start our own traditions I’ve heard the phrase often, “Christmas will be different this year.” This Christmas I really started thinking about that statement and the more I thought about it, the more I realized: Christmas is never different. Christmas is celebrating the birth of Christ and that will never, ever, ever change. Christmas isn’t about how many presents are under the tree or how many family members we can cram around a table. If we think it is about those things, we are setting ourselves up for major disappointment when our idea of a “perfect” Christmas celebration cannot be achieved every December 25th. Kyle and I were discussing something this Christmas season and he said, “Just because that’s the way we did it in our families growing up doesn’t mean we have to do it that way in OUR family.” Not that what we did growing up was bad in any way, but it is ok for us to change it! We’ve started some great family traditions the past few years and I love them. We have cream of crab soup every Christmas Eve and this is a tradition what will most likely continue even if we move away from the crab capital of Maryland. Why? Because it has become what our family does, what our children will remember, and a reminder to us that we once lived thousands of miles away from all of our family and instead of trying to recreate everything we had ever known, we had the confidence to branch out and start something new. Does the crab or the soup really have any significance? Not other than the fact that we live in Maryland and are crab crazy around here. It is mostly just that fact that it is delicious.

This year Kyle’s parents were with us for Christmas. Was is like any other Christmas they’ve ever had? Probably not. There was no Christmas Eve service, as our children were too sick to go, there was no fine China put out on the table, as I’m too <strike>lazy</strike> pregnant to drag it all up from the basement, there was no Honey Baked Ham, as I’m too cheap and just bought one at Costco. It was different, but is different bad? Honestly, I don’t know, they may never come back for another Christmas ever again. For me, it was wonderful, because instead of focusing on the things we didn’t have (my parents, the girls’ cousins, our siblings, fine china) I focused on what we did have. What we did have was: snow falling, squeals of delight from two little girls, grandparents, chocolate fondue, way too many gifts, matching tuxedo t-shirts, and of course, cream of crab soup! I think this Christmas season I was reminded of how much we have to be thankful for. Even as families grow and change and try to cling to pieces of what has always been, we are growing as people, learning to be flexible, and embracing new ways of doing things for every holiday, I was reminded over and over again that all of this is secondary. Every single last bit of it is secondary to the fact that God sent a savior to rescue the world. THAT is what it is about, and only that!

So…how did we celebrate this year?

Tradition: Kyle gets us matching T-shirts every year in our stockings. This year’s theme was “Keeping Christmas Classy.”

It snowed on Christmas Eve, which was a nice surprise! She spends all day, every day playing with or pretending to be a horse. She loves them. She went for her first dentist visit recently and was thrilled when it was time to pick out the stickers at the end. This is what she chose:

She got a set of horses for Christmas and she plays with them all the time. Normally the weekend after Thanksgiving is pretty warm in Maryland and it is a little hard to get in the Christmas spirit when you are not wearing a jacket or drinking hot chocolate as you wander up and down the rows of Christmas trees. This year was an exception and it was COLD! Let me tell you, hauling five kids ages four and under around a Christmas tree farm when it is bitterly cold is not all that fun. Memories were definitely made- and this is a tradition we cherish with our good friends.

Sadie and Finn started out in the wagon.

Hannah decided to join.

Hannah out, Kinsley in. She is getting so big and independent, growing and changing right before my eyes every single day. Sadie continues to bring us so much joy, yet so much grief on a daily basis. Obedience is not her strong suit and our days can be challenging, but she keeps me laughing much of the day also. Here is Sadie at 2.5:

* She is obsessed, I mean OBSESSED with horses. She spends 90% of her day playing with horses, riding her horse, or pretending that she is a horse. We have puzzle that has different kids with animals and one of them is a girl and a horse. Those two pieces are never in the puzzle because she carries them around. Sometimes it is hard to tell if she is crying or just letting out a loud, “Neeeeeeeeeigh!”

* She goes to a class at the library once a week and at the end she gets a stamp on her hand. One day the stamp was a sheep and she looked at it and said, “UGH…I no like sheep, I like HORSES!”

* She uses the word “really” all the time. “I’m really done eating, mom.” “I really need some milk.” “I really need help with this.” I think it is her favorite word.

* When she tells you she is doing something and I reply, “You are?” She says, “I are.”

* She still isn’t a good eater, but is getting better. She will eat carrots now and actually ate some lettuce a few weeks ago. Cookies? She has no problem eating those.

* She loves to use Kyle and me as climbing structures. The other day she was being rough and I told her to be gentle because there was a baby in my tummy. She said, “There is a baby, in THERE??” I showed her and she said, “Oh, I give her a kiss?” So sweet!

* She loves to take Hannah to school and carries her own school bag, wipes her hands before she enters the classroom, and goes and finds a table to sit at every morning. She is ready!

* I’m loving the one on one time I get with her when Hannah is at school. I’m learning so much about her personality and how much she actually knows. She has an amazing mind and makes some pretty good connections between things. She is not a performer, so if you ask her colors or shapes she will tell you the wrong thing. However, she made a diamond on a geoboard today and came and told me it was a diamond. Good to know that she does in fact know her shapes! She is quite a delightful little girl when her older sister isn’t here to boss her around.

* She is so excited about life. She does everything with major gusto. There is no docile Sadie.

* She occasionally walks by Lhotse and says, “Hi Lhotse, you a dog?”

* She has an amazing imagination. She is constantly having conversations with her toys. She also pretends that her foods are people and they have conversations with each other. Two wheat thins can really carry on quite the conversation. Kyle said, “She takes the phrase “playing with your food” to a whole new level.”

That sums up Sadie in a nutshell. Unfortunately, many “sings” make their way to my car and never make it out! My car is filled with “sings!” I tried to snap a picture of her with all of her “sings” the other day. I said, “Hold on, let me take your picture.” While I was getting the camera, she put them all on the table and was holding one saying, “Cheese!” when I returned. She picked up each one for a picture. She is so hilarious!

No doubt, these “sings” are still in my car!
Alexishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02843400486715542993noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3536580557346057391.post-36923782034152847452012-11-19T18:35:00.001-08:002012-11-19T18:35:20.371-08:00The Biggest Sister
Most people already know, but I haven’t officially announced on the blog yet that Baby Peterson #3 is on the way! Hannah is so incredibly excited! She wants to see every picture I bring home and is already making plans to feed the baby, read to the baby, and play with the baby. She really wanted a little brother, but is getting a sister instead. I can’t believe we are going to have three little girls running around here!

Hannah hasn’t gotten much blog time lately and she is at such a fun age. Sometimes I wish I could just bottle her up and keep her 4 and a half forever. I love her innocence and her excitement about everything. She is learning so much every day and as I see her trying to figure out more and more about the world around her, I am amazed at how her mind works. She is not perfect, as there is a lot of whining and bossing her sister, but I just love it when I find little pictures she’s drawn with words at the bottom. This is Hannah at 4.5:

* She is well on her way to being an independent reader. She has many sight words down and it able to spell some simple words on her own. I taught her several sight words and then imported them into her LeapPad spelling game. She spelled them all correctly on the first try and then asked, “Mom, why did you put words in here that I already know?” Um…because I just taught them to you five minutes ago!

* She is still not a risk taker, with most things. She wants everything to be perfect, all of the time. She doesn’t like to sound out words to write, she wants to make sure they are spelled correctly so she asks me how to spell them. If she knows she can’t do it perfectly, most of the time she won’t try. We are working on it!

* She loves to bring her Weekly Readers home and read them to me. She’s such a little school girl!

* She sings all day long. Seriously, ALL DAY!

* She hates to leave places when we are out doing fun things. She is a professional pouter when it is time to leave any fun activity.

* She is a great help around the house. She loves cleaning and is especially good at laundry. She is always willing to vacuum, sweep, and dust. She recently has started asking to load the dishwasher and wash the dishes. She loves being a helper and will cheerfully run upstairs to get me things. One night I swept the kitchen floor but didn’t want to get out the vacuum out to get rid of the pile because they girls were sleeping. When she woke up in the morning she came downstairs, saw the pile, and vacuumed it up- all before I knew she was awake! I also taught her to wipe down the sink every day after she brushes her teeth. This is such a great help because our sink is green and shows every speck of toothpaste- and I don’t have to do it!

* We have the best conversations! Some of these I just copied from facebook, because I don’t want to forget them.

* The other day in the car she said, “Do pandas have nipples?” Just randomly, out of the blue!

* She asked, “How do cows get milk?” When I said they eat food and their bodies help them turn it into milk she said, “But mom, cows eat grass and water- HOW does it turn into milk?” I don’t know how many times I say, “We’ll have to research that” to her every day.

* We were having a talk about having a good attitude and she said, “I think my attitude is starting to be like Sadie’s attitude, because that’s what I listen to all day long.”

* They are obsessed with this show called Horse Land and the other day I told Hannah I wanted her to watch something where she could learn something and she said, "Mommy, when I grow up I'm going to be a horse rider and this is teaching me how to ride horses." That girl always has a logical retort for everything!

* We did a science experiment together and I was taking some pictures of her. When we were done she said, “Ok mom, now fashion pictures!” She stood up and started posing.

* For show and tell today Hannah had to bring something she was thankful for. Right away she said she wanted to bring her hair bows and pony tail holders. When I tried to guide her to something a little "better" (you know, like a picture of her mother) she said, "Mom, I am REALLY thankful that these keep my hair out of my eyes." That Hannah, always practical! I always wonder what her teacher thinks of her! :)

* Sadie came inside crying and when I asked her what happened she said, "Hannah pushed me." I said, "Hannah, come here please." As she entered the room she put her hands on her hips, pointed at Sadie and said, "SHE'S a petty thief!" And with that, discipline was over. How could I possibly keep a straight face?? I have no idea where she comes up with this stuff.

I just love this girl. We have so much fun!
Alexishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02843400486715542993noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3536580557346057391.post-84528477809413188662012-11-08T18:24:00.000-08:002012-11-08T18:24:00.776-08:00Snow White and Cinderella

Alexishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02843400486715542993noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3536580557346057391.post-64638301058009414712012-11-07T18:09:00.000-08:002012-11-07T18:09:00.141-08:00Just a normal day around here…

Alexishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02843400486715542993noreply@blogger.com0
