A Gone Tooth

Back in May we were eating corn on the cob for dinner and Hannah started to complain that her tooth hurt.  I just brushed it off, thinking there was corn stuck in her teeth or something.  When she was still complaining the next day, I decided to check it out.  I looked in her mouth, and saw that she had her very first loose tooth.  She was SO SO SO excited because one of her good friends had lost a tooth a few months earlier.  I, on the other hand, was not excited at all.  I gave her strict instructions not to wiggle that tooth at all.  I then went in my room and cried.  I  was not ready for missing teeth!  I’m not ready for the awkward smiles, braces, big girl look that permanent teeth bring.  Not ready, not ready, not ready!  I loved her little girl smile so much and I was hoping to keep that tooth in for as long as possible.  Since she is such a little rule follower, I’m convinced that tooth stayed in two weeks longer than it would have if it belonged to any other child.  Everyone she saw she told, “I have a loose tooth, but my mom says I can’t wiggle it!”  One day in early June she spent the day with a friend and came home with a very, very loose tooth.  I told her to stay right there, I wanted one last picture of her with all her baby teeth.  When I came back outside, this is what I saw.

She was so excited!  The tooth fairy brought her a $2 bill, a $1 bill, and a fairy DVD.  She can’t wait to loose even more teeth!  For the next few weeks she told everyone she saw, “I have a gone tooth!”

Awww! This made me cry! Probably because I'm totally with you, Alexis. The thought of those sweet little baby teeth falling out makes me sad! I can't believe my baby niece is losing her teeth already!
