MORE Conversations with a Three Year Old

Now that the news has gone public, I can post this conversation I had with Hannah last week:

Hannah: Sadie and I are not twins.

Me: No you aren’t.

Hannah: Sadie and Avery are twins.

Me: Not exactly.  They are cousins.  Hey, did you know that Avery is going to have a new baby at her house?

Hannah: A new baby? (She looked pretty worried about this news)

Me: Yes, a new baby!

Hannah: A little boy?  (She started to get excited!)

Me: We don’t know.  We will have to wait until the baby is born.

Hannah: What is the baby’s name?

Me: I don’t know.  We have to wait to find out.

Hannah: Abraham, Mommy, Abraham?

Me: I will suggest that to Aunt Beth

I let Lhotse in to clean up the lunch mess that was all over the floor and Hannah said, “That mouth sure is handy!”

On the way home today Kyle told Hannah they were going to come home and watch hockey.  She said, “No, we need to do a little cleaning and a little organizing.”

She is really (really, REALLY) into reading road signs.  She wants to spell out every word on every sign.  While I am very happy that she has great letter recognition, this causes us some major problems, namely, she wants to me stop the car at every sign so she can say ALL of the letters.  As you can imagine, this is just not possible but she doesn’t understand that you can’t just stop a car in the middle of the interstate.  However, we have to go through a large regional park when we head toward the larger suburbs of DC and there are several signs that are just pictures.  Every time we pass them she says.

“People, Motorcycles (bikes).”  “Watch for people and motorcycles Mommy.”

“Deer!  Watch for deer, Mommy.”

“3-0.”  (Speed limit)

And will you believe that she says it every. single. time.  She does.

We were in the car today and out of the blue she said.

Papaw says, “Dobby, Dobby, Dobby, Dobby.”  I say, “NO!  It is Dobby, Dobby, Dobby, Dobby, Dobby.”

While we are in Florida, Hannah and Stephen will have to go for a drive together and read all the signs. He STILL does it, at 31 years old.

"Cleaning and organizing" huh. If she keeps that attitude Mimi will fly her into Colorado about once a month. And thanks for correcting her on what I say. I'm sure her response was "No, it goes like this".
